After Editing Your Podcast, This Is The Step You Can’t Skip

Jun 17, 2024 | Business, Creativity, How To, Leadership

I’m thrilled to share the next phase of the podcasting journey with you all. This will be the final post on podcasting for now, despite there being so many ins and outs of the entire process we could dive deeper into. We will do an indepth webinar series/course on podcasting at a later date. So far we’ve already delved into planning and essential pre-production/recording steps, but now it’s time to talk about what comes after you’ve hit that stop button – the post-production and distribution process. Let’s dive in and ensure your podcast is polished, professional, and ready to reach listeners far and wide.

Finalizing Each Episode

First up, we need to finalize each episode. This includes adding all the important metadata such as the episode title, description, and tags. These little details might seem minor, but they’re crucial for search engine optimization (SEO) and helping potential listeners discover your show. Trust me, you want to make it as easy as possible for people to find your amazing content!

Key Steps:

  • Title: Make it catchy and relevant.
  • Description: Summarize the episode’s content and highlight key points.
  • Tags: Use relevant keywords to enhance discoverability.

Creating Eye-Catching Artwork

Next, you’ll need to create some eye-catching artwork for your podcast. This is often the first thing that catches someone’s attention when they’re browsing for new shows, so you’ll want to make sure it’s visually appealing and represents the vibe of your podcast. If you have some artistic chops, this can be a really fun project. For those on a budget or not familiar with Photoshop, Canva is a fantastic DIY tool. Or, you can reach out to me and my team at Freedom Story Media for professional cover art assistance.

Tips for Artwork:

  • Visual Appeal: Ensure your artwork stands out and is easily recognizable.
  • Brand Representation: Your design should reflect your podcast’s theme and tone.
  • Simplicity: Avoid clutter; keep it clean and focused.

Hosting and Distribution

Once your episodes are polished, it’s time to think about hosting and distribution. There are several hosting platforms out there, such as Castos, Libsyn, Podbean, and Anchor. I personally use Castos because it allows me to host multiple podcasts from one account. However, if you’re not concerned about content ownership, Anchor is a great free option.

These platforms will provide you with an RSS feed, which is essential for distributing your podcast to various directories.

Popular Hosting Platforms:

  • Castos: Great for multiple podcasts and detailed analytics.
  • Libsyn: Reliable and widely used in the industry.
  • Podbean: User-friendly with robust features.
  • Anchor: Free and easy to use, though with some limitations on content ownership.

Submitting to Directories

To get your show in front of potential listeners, submit your podcast to all the major directories like Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and Stitcher. This step is crucial for broadening your reach and growing your audience.

Major Directories:

  • Apple Podcasts: The largest podcast directory.
  • Spotify: A rapidly growing platform for podcasts.
  • Stitcher: Popular among dedicated podcast listeners.

And hey, if you’re looking for an all-in-one solution that covers both hosting and distribution, consider joining the Freedom Story Podcast Network (FSPN). Starting at just $15 a month, we can take care of all the technical nitty-gritty so you can focus on creating amazing content.

I know it might seem like a lot of moving parts, but trust me, it’s all worth it when you start seeing those download numbers roll in and hearing from engaged listeners. Just take it one step at a time, and before you know it, your podcast will be out there in the world, ready to inspire and impact people.

Keep Creating for God’s Glory. Be blessed and be a blessing!
